Visitors can learn how a recruit is molded into an elite warrior at the “Making Marines” exhibit. Lift a fully loaded Marine pack and hear a Drill Instructor deliver a motivational speech.
Experience the Life of a Marine in Interactive Exhibits
Trace the history and development of the Marine Corps in an exhibit that begins with the idea of the corps during the American Revolution, then follows the contributions of Marines in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the American Civil War. The role of the Marines in combating pirates and slave traders is also part of this exhibit. Find out more about the role of the Marines in the biggest wars of the last century, including both world wars, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The exhibits are designed to be immersive, multi-sensory displays, so use discretion when bringing young children to the museum.
The final phase of construction is underway at the museum. Slated to open in 2018, visitors from Dumfries VA homes and around the country will be able to experience exhibits on the events of September 11, 2001 and the role of the Marines in the response to that terrible day.
The museum is open every day of the year except Christmas day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Visit the National Museum of the Marine Corps to learn more.
